NWBA History - The National Wheelchair Basketball Association has a 60-year history of organized and competitive sports for people with disabilities. Wheelchair basketball began as a form of rehabilitation for soldiers returning from World War II and was formalized as a competitive sport in 1948, just one season after the NBA. The NWBA has over 2400 registered players on 200 teams, competition includes divisions for men, women, college, and youth.
Team History - The Denver Rolling Nuggets have been in existence since 1972, starting as the Craig Crushers by Joe Gomez at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital. The team changed its name in 1983 to the Craig Raiders. In 1985, the team changed its name again under a promotional agreement with NBA Denver Nuggets. This agreement was the starting point of a long running relationship between the NBA Nuggets and the Rolling Nuggets. The Denver Rolling Nuggets was one of the first teams to be sponsored by the NBA. Today, there are at least twenty-five NBA clubs that have some level of affiliation with NWBA teams. Throughout the years, the team has performed at half-time of Denver Nugget games to the delight of the crowd. In 2000, Denver finished as runner-ups in Division 2 and in 2004 were national champions at the elite level.
